Gearing Up For Godspell

By Beacon Staff

Broadway is back in Whitefish with the Alpine Theatre Project’s production of Godspell. Montana’s only professional equity summer theater kicks off its summer series with this rock musical based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew.

“It’s our goal is to expose Whitefish to excellent talent,” said Whitefish native Betsi Morrison, director of Godspell and ATP’s artistic director. “And we want to show our friends this beautiful place.”

The theater has officially been uniting actors and actresses from across the country for four years, said Morrison. The talent assembled this year boasts of an impressive resume with people like Mike Eldred (final Broadway cast of Les Miserables, The Civil War and Jesus Christ Superstar) who will perform as Judas and John the Baptist, in his fourth year with the ATP.

“After the first day I called everyone I knew and said, ‘This is going to be really good’.” Eldred added.

Godspell opens July 18, at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish and will run through Aug. 5. For more information on the show and for a season schedule, contact the Alpine Theatre Project.
