People and lightning are the quoted causes of several small fires in our area.
Over the weekend a fire by Holland Lake was controlled at 1/10 of an acre. The Flathead National Forest believes it was human caused.
Lightning sparked a 3-acre fire on Crane Mountain, just east of Bigfork, and another near Swan Lake. Fire suppression activities continue on the Swan.
These hot, dry temperatures and looming thunderheads heightened the fire danger throughout the Flathead, and the whole area will see Stage I Fire Restrictions by Monday, July 23rd.
“We are seeing conditions that we normally don’t see until August,” says Dan Cassidy, Northwest Land Office Fire and Service Forestry Program Manager for the DNRC.
