No Lights In Bigfork

By Beacon Staff

Wednesday nights storm knocked down branches, trees, and clipped the power for Bigfork for the better part of Thursday.

“In Bigfork; definitely the biggest impact,” says Stephanie Wallace with Flathead Electric Co-op.
Pine trees ripped through a power pole on Holt Drive that had both Transmission and Distribution lines. This caused a domino effect knocking out power for Bigfork, Ferndale, down the east shore of Flathead Lake, and in Swan Lake.

Crews worked through the night to contain any danger to the public. The repair requires new power poles, and FEC was unable to give an estimate for the amount of time it will take to turn Bigfork back on. Once the new poles are hooked up, they can repair other outages down the line.

“In the last 28 years,” says FEC Trustee Alan Ruby, “I haven’t seen anything like what I saw last night.”
