Highway 83 Reopens

By Beacon Staff

Highway 83 reopened Wednesday morning, but officials warn drivers to watch for fire fighting traffic and slower speed limits.

Travel along the highway will close to the public between 8 and 10 in the morning, and from 8 to 10 at night.

The only evacuations remaining are at Eagle Point Subdivision, Snowmass Drive, and Westside Bypass Road. Seeley Lake, Placid Lake and Lake Inez remain closed to allow helicopters and planes to scoop up water.

Officials say the Jocko Lakes fire is 15-percent contained, but that it has a high growth potential. It’s at 24,190 acres, lightning ignited the fire on August 3. 983 people are fighting the blaze west of Seeley Lake.
