Drowning Victim from Lower Two Medicine Lake Identified

By Beacon Staff

KALISPELL (AP) – A 22-year-old man who drowned in Lower Two Medicine Lake last week has been identified as Cole Augare from the Browning area.

Augare was swimming with a three or four friends on Aug. 16 when the group lost sight of him, the Glacier County sheriff’s office said.

After Augare disappeared in the water, his friends searched for him for several hours before calling authorities just before 3 p.m., said Glacier County Undersheriff Jeff Fauque. A helicopter from the Skyland Fire responded to the scene, and a rescue team in boats used sonar equipment to aid in the search, Fauque said.

Divers from the Toole County Search and Rescue team were also in the water at that time.

Augare’s body was recovered about 6:30 p.m.

Investigators don’t yet know how the drowning occurred, Glacier County Sheriff Wayne Dusterhoff said Thursday. A blood sample was sent to the state crime lab in Missoula for a toxicology report, but won’t be ready for three to four weeks, he said.
