Columbia Falls JV sends the Dogs to the pound

By Beacon Staff

Monday night football. Try getting that song out of your head.

But tonight was different. The “bah-bah-bah-bah, ba-dum,bum, bum BUMP” was only in your head. You’re at a JV football game at Columbia Falls High School.

No radio. No tv coverage. No blimp.

Still plenty of fun and excitement, as long as you’re from Columbia Falls.

When I arrived early in the 4th quarter (ahhh, senility), the score was 14-12 CF.

In a matter of minutes, a Wassam touchdown pass, and an interception runback for a TD suddenly made it 30-12 CF.

With 6 seconds left, Whitefish made it a bit more respectible with a nice pass and run to score, ending it at 30-20. The last minute score was a bit annoying for the Columbia Falls players, but still, a sweet victory over their arch rivals from Whitefish.

This was a recurring scene. Whitefish quarterback on the run. Half the Columbia Falls defense joining him in the backfield.

Sometimes he got the ball away (this one fell harmlessly to the turf), sometimes he got to eat it.

Sometimes, Whitefish defensive linemen got into the Columbia Falls backfield. On this occasion, QB Mitchell Wassam is in the process of throwing a long TD pass.

Ready to launch their favorite weapon…

….John Woody. Another in a series of deadly quick “small” Columbia Falls running backs.

Now you see Woody…

Now you don’t. Well, ok, you see the back of him. Not the ideal view of a running back if you’re on defense and he has the ball.

We now return you.
