Future Wildcats take the field at halftime

By Beacon Staff

During halftime of last Friday’s Wildcat football game against Polson, the Columbia Falls Junior High sixth grade football team took the field, split into Red and Gold squads. Following are some photos of their brief moment in the spotlight.

In sixth grade “ironman” football, everyone plays both offense and defense.

A Gold defender watches the one that’s getting away.

Good defense was evident on both sides…

For the Gold team: This player was in the red team’s backfield on several occasions. Here, he’s heads up with the running back as soon as he gets the ball – and wrestles him to the ground shortly thereafter. Later this defender’s timely visit to the backfield caused a fumble, recovered by the offense for lost yardage.

For the Red team: This defender is smaller than two blockers and the running back.

But it didn’t bother him, as he dragged the runner to the ground.

Varied offenses drove up the middle, ran sweeps, and threw a few passes.

This pass fell incomplete.

After a catching a pass of about 10 yards, this receiver scampered another 60+ yards for a touchdown, leading the crowd to go crazy over this group of 6th graders.
