News Buffet: Brown v. Schweitzer, Butte Hit-and-Run, Candy Clarification

State Sen. Roy Brown, R-Billings announced he will challenge Gov. Brian Schweitzer in the 2008 election. A 20-year-old Butte man was charged in a hit-and-run that killed a girl over the weekend and left two girls hospitalized. The state Department of Corrections is rocked by an investigation revealing racist and sexually explicit e-mails, including a picture of a naked child, implicating some 47 employees. A new federal appeals court panel will scrutinize the findings of an earlier panel that cracked down on W.R. Grace & Co., in the government’s suit against the company for asbestos poisoning in Libby. The bill for the 2007 wildfire season totals $107 million, with the state on the hook for about $43 million.
