Montana QB Bergquist Leads Grizzlies Past Idaho State 27-14

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) – Montana quarterback Cole Bergquist threw for 283 yards and ran for 64 more on Saturday to lead the Grizzlies to a 27-14 victory over Idaho State.

The Grizzlies remain undefeated with a 10-0 overall record, 7-0 in the Big Sky Conference.

The game was tied 14-14 with 9:27 left in the third quarter before Bergquist threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Rob Schulte to put the Grizzlies ahead for good.

Bergquist completed 13 of 24 passes, including TD throws of 24 and 21 yards. He was intercepted once.

Montana took a 7-0 lead on its opening possession, a five-play, 79-yard drive ending with a 5-yard run by Greg Coleman.

ISU (3-7, 2-5 Big Sky) tied the game in the second quarter on an 18-play, 92-yard drive that ended with 2-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Russel Hill to fullback Clint Knickrehm.

Idaho State tied the game again in the third quarter on a 100-yard kickoff return by JD Ponciano.

Hill was 21 of 34 passing for 210 yards and one touchdown, while Bengals running back Josh Barnet rushed for 105 yards on 27 carries.

Wide receiver Ryan Bagley had three receptions for 107 yards as Montana racked up 419 yards of total offense, compared with 286 for the Bengals.

Montana defensive end Kroy Biermann had seven tackles, two sacks and a blocked field goal.

Dan Carpenter finished Montana’s scoring with field goals of 29 and 44 yards.
