HELENA (AP) – The No. 2 Carroll College Saints are back to the quarterfinals of the NAIA playoffs after defeating No. 16 Black Hills State 34-0 in a first-round game Saturday.
Carroll senior quarterback John Barnett connected on 19 of 35 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Travis Browne had eight catches and a touchdown, while also adding a 76-yard kickoff return to start the second half.
Carroll held the Yellow Jackets to 257 total yards of offense while amassing 335.
Black Hills State had a strong performance from its two freshman stars. Running back Tanner Ehrlich finished with 75 yards rushing on 21 attempts. Quarterback Drew Hodgs completed 15-of-31 passes for 225 yards.
Ryan Fagerstrom led the Yellow Jackets in catches with six for 66 yards.
The Saints, now 12-0 on the season, will host an NAIA quarterfinal game next Saturday.
