Sports Buffet: Griz Get No. 3 Seed in Playoffs, Capital Takes State

A day after beating rival Montana State 41-20 to wrap up an undefeated season, the Montana Grizzlies earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. The Grizzlies (11-0) will host Wofford on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 12:05 p.m. Wofford is the Southern Conference champion, finishing the regular season with a 8-3 (5-2) record. As the No. 3 seed, Montana is guaranteed home games until it faces a higher seed. Big Sky Conference runner-up Eastern Washington also made it to the playoffs, drawing a match-up with No. 2 McNeese State.

In other sports news, Carroll College had an easy time with its first round opponent in the NAIA playoffs. The Saints pounded Black Hills State 34-0. In prep action, Capital High School came from behind Friday night to beat Billings Senior 30-27 to win the Class AA state championship. It’s the Bruins’ second consecutive state title. In Class A action, Billings Central ruined Dillon’s bid for a third consecutive state championship, beating the Beavers 28-13 in the title game.
