Lady Griz Top Rebels

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Sonja Rogers scored 17 points and Mandy Morales added 10 points and 10 assists Friday afternoon as Montana opened the UNLV Lady Rebel Shootout with a 57-42 victory over Oregon State.

Montana (2-2) forced Oregon State into 29 turnovers and held the Beavers to under 24 percent shooting to advance to the tournament’s championship game against Richmond or UNLV Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Mountain.

The Lady Griz jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never trailed.

Oregon State (2-1) didn’t reach double figures until Ashley Allen scored with 4:50 left in the first half, pulling the Beavers within 17-11. Allen led OSU with 14 points.

Montana scored the final six points of the opening half to take a 23-11 halftime lead. The Lady Griz forced 20 first-half turnovers and held OSU to 14.3 percent shooting in the first half.

Oregon State pulled to 35-28 with just under 12 minutes remaining on two free throws by Cedes Fox-Griffin, but Montana pulled away with a 15-2 run over the next six-plus minutes to take a 50-30 lead with under five minutes remaining.

Tamara Guardipee finished with eight points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for the Lady Griz.
