Another Democrat Declines to Challenge Congressman

By Beacon Staff

HELENA (AP) – Another Democrat says he is not going to run against Republican U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg.

Kendall Van Dyk of Billings says he has decided to stay in the state Legislature instead.

Democrats have been looking for someone to replace Bill Kennedy ever since the Yellowstone County Commissioner dropped out of the race last month, citing health concerns.

Sen. Dave Wanzenried of Missoula has also said he won’t seek the Democratic nomination to take on Rehberg.

Van Dyk says he is supporting former lawmaker and current Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission chairman Steve Doherty. Doherty did not immediately return a call seeking comment on whether he will run.
