Mercer Leads Montana State Over Utah Valley

BOZEMAN (AP) – Rebecca Mercer scored 30 points, including four 3-pointers, to help lead Montana State to a 79-69 victory against Utah Valley on Wednesday night.

The win snapped the Wolverines’ 11-game winning streak that dated back to last season.

Sarah Strand added 12 points for the Bobcats (3-4), while Krislyn Wallace and Erica Perry each had nine points. Wallace led the team with 11 rebounds.

Montana State led 38-37 at the break, but rallied in the second half to outscore Utah Valley 41-32. The Wolverines (8-1) came to within three points on Julie McMurray’s layup with 1:49 left. But Strand hit a key layup with 1:14 left, and MSU went 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final 44 seconds to seal the win.

McMurray, who was 8-for-8 from the free throw line, led Utah Valley with 18 points. Robyn Fairbanks added 17 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
