Whitefish Speakers Win First For A Schools

On their home turf, Whitefish High School speakers swept the floor in Speech Sweeps winning first place for A schools. Over the first weekend in December, Whitefish hosted their annual Whitefish Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, in which Whitefish speakers tallied up 78 points. Missoula Loyola ended the day with first place in speech for B-C schools with 91 points, and first place in AA schools went to Flathead High School with 79 points.

Co-captain senior Evan Harris had the judges laughing all day and took first place in Humorous Oral Interpretation while sophomore Tamir Rawlings took third place. Senior Trevor Bennett received fifth in Impromptu Speaking, and Tyler Schiff took fifth place in Memorized Public Address.

Freshman Adam Harris and sophomore Joe Mazer walked away with first place in Team Debate. Sophomores Jake Danzyck and Derek Janni also took fourth in Team Debate. Junior Ellen Scheffer argued her way to second place in Lincoln Douglas Debate followed by John Schott in fifth place.

The team ended the day with first place hardware in hand and is now preparing for a tournament in Libby on Dec. 8.
