Bigfork School Board Hires Contractor

By Beacon Staff

Bigfork Schools move forward in renovation and expansion plans for the elementary and middle schools. During the school boards December 12th meeting, they voted to hire Hammerquist & Casalegno as the Construction Manager.

Voters approved a 5.5 million dollar bond to upgrade Bigfork Elementary and Middle Schools in October. Now the project moves into the nitty-gritty detail stage; gearing up to begin construction just before school lets out in June.

Updates to the elementary school include administrative offices near a new, clearly defined front entrance. New classroom space will move the 6th graders out of the temporary buildings near the edge of the playground, and back into the school. Improvements to the cafeteria, a new art room, and new science classrooms are also planned.

Hammerquist & Casalegno, Martel Construction, and Swank Construction competed for the project. Hammerquist & Casalegno will work with architect John Evans of Archetects West who is drafting a detailed plan. The projected end date is August of 2009.
