Deadline Approaches for Tax Rebate

By Beacon Staff

HELENA (AP) – The state has so far issued $91 million worth of property tax rebates to Montana home owners in advance of a Dec. 31 deadline.

The $400 property tax refund was authorized by the 2007 Legislature.

The state says 91 percent of eligible homeowners have claimed the rebate so far, or about 232,000 homeowners.

Homeowners who lived in their homes for at least seven months in 2006 are eligible for the rebate.

Homeowners would have to seek a hardship exemption to get the rebate after the deadline.
