Whitefish Takes Second At Ronan

Whitefish Speech and Debate Team brought home more hardware last weekend. At the Ronan Invitational on Dec. 15, the team ended the day with a second place finish with 61 points, following Columbia Falls who took first place with 93 points.

In Team Debate, freshman Adam Harris and sophomore Joe Mazur took second place and sophomores Matt Danczyk and Patrick Meehan took eighth place.

In Lincoln Douglas Debate, junior Ellen Scheffer took first place. Scheffer said, “It was so exciting as it was my first time winning first place. My top competitor from Columbia Falls, and I have been battling for the top spot all season, and I finally beat her!” Sophomore Josh Schott finished eighth in Lincoln Douglas.

Freshmen Stephanie Christensen took fifth place and Julie Peterman eighth in Memorized Public Address. Senior Evan Harris took second place in Humorous Oral Interpretation. Senior Julia Williamson took fifth place in Extemporaneous Speaking.

The team is doing well, running a close horse race with Columbia Falls. The teams is gearing up for their last meet in Corvallis before heading off to divisionals.
