MatCats fall to Libby, 48-35

By Beacon Staff

It was a busy Friday night at the high school with band events at one end of the building and wrestling at the other. In the gym, the Columbia Falls High School MatCats fell short as Libby was just too strong with six pins to Columbia Falls’ three (two of which took less than a minute).

C-Falls’ pins were recorded by Kodie Kenfield (215 lb), Kelly Houle (189 lb) and Clayton Patterson (119 lb). Michael Hader (152 lb) won by technical fall. Shawn Whitman (130 lb) and Joe Gross (145 lb, pictured above) won by decision.

Below, C-Falls’ Joe Gross works to get his opponent on his back where he belongs. Clearly, his opponent disagrees about that. Gross decisioned his opponent, Kody Berget in the 145 lb class.

Is wrestling an art form? In a dark gym, the swift movements of a wrestling match often appear as blurs in photography without a flash (you may have noticed this is my preference). I happened to like the look of this one from an artistic point of view, even though it’s not all that news-y.
