Flathead-area Scouts compete in Klondike Derby

By Beacon Staff

While many were hunkering down this weekend, 116 Boy Scouts from the Flathead Valley were competing in the Northwest District Klondike Derby.

All that wind and single digit overnight temperatures werent enough to keep them from a weekend campout at the Coram Horse Pasture. The draw? A Saturday full of activity that included snow sumo wrestling, Scout-powered snow sled races and crosscut saws.

Below, Columbia Falls troop 41 races to a first place finish in the Klondike Sled Race. Scouts pull a handmade sled over 100 yards through deep snow with another Scout acting as cargo on the sled.
