Montana AFL-CIO Board Votes to Endorse Schweitzer

By Beacon Staff

HELENA (AP) – The Montana AFL-CIO is endorsing Gov. Brian Schweitzer for a second term.

The state labor federation represents 35,000 members and 168 labor organizations.

Its executive secretary, Jim McGarvey, says Schweitzer believes all Montanans deserve good jobs with health insurance and retirement benefits that will support their families. And he says the governor made numerous decisions during his first term to support those beliefs.

For example, the group said, Schweitzer supported stronger enforcement of prevailed wages, and a higher minimum wage. He also created an advisory council to address workers compensation issues.

McGarvey says the Montana AFL-CIO executive board decided to thank the governor for his hard work with an early endorsement.
