Trout Unlimited Seeks Governor’s Help on Energy Issues

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Trout Unlimited is asking for Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s help in advancing a balanced energy policy.

The conservation and sportsmen group says it wants a federal energy policy that recognizes that some areas require special protections.

Trout Unlimited’s Kendall Van Dyk also says hunters and anglers want a seat at the table on discussions about oil and gas development on public land.

The group says it is planning a symposium in Jackson, Wyo., in May to advance its platform.

Schweitzer says he and other western governors are interested in ideas and will look at the recommendations.

But he says any document he supports will have to recognize that the state wants to develop more energy.
