Places: Lawrence Park

By Beacon Staff

With spring weather arriving, Lawrence Park in Kalispell is a great place to dust off the bikes, rollerblades or walking shoes. A little more than a mile of blacktop trail winds its way around pavilions, playground equipment and ball fields. The trail is accessible from anywhere in the park and ends at North Main Street and Whitefish Stage Road.

Great for family outings and picnics, pavilions – the larger containing electricity, a grill and lights – are available for larger gatherings while the playground equipment with slides and swings is perfect for kids to spend some winter energy.

The most impressive aspect of Lawrence Park is its feeling of space. Although located near downtown Kalispell, walking through the park’s open areas, following the path along the Stillwater River or relaxing in the shade under trees near the walking bridge feels like an escape.

Custom-made baskets for Frisbee golf are located around the park but play can be difficult as the course is a popular park space.

How to get there: From downtown Kalispell, continue north on North Main Street. It will verge slightly to the right as U.S. Highway 93 curves left. Turn right at the sign for Lawrence Park before heading up the hill to Buffalo Hills Golf Course.
