By Beacon Staff

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo – A general contractor from Montana has won the contract to build a new $27 million visitor education center at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.

The two-story, 26,000-square-foot building will be built on the site of the old visitor center, which was demolished last summer. A temporary visitor center is in place.

Swank Enterprises, with offices in Kalispell and Valier, Mont., won the contract to build the new center. Work is scheduled to begin in May, and the new facility is expected to open to the public by the fall of 2010.

The center will feature new exhibits and programs to help visitors understand the hydrothermal features in Yellowstone.
