Burning Permits Required

By Beacon Staff

Open burning in Flathead County will require a burning permit starting Thurs., May 1.

Burning permits are available two ways:

Go on-line to www.firesafekalispell.com and fill out an application. A permit will be generated on-line and e-mailed to you, and you can print it on your home printer.

Or, stop by one of the following offices, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., where a burn permit can be issued to you:
Flathead City-County Health Department, 2nd floor, Earl Bennett Building, 1035 1st Avenue West in Kalispell.
Montana DNRC burn permit office at 2250 Highway 93 North, in Kalispell.
Bigfork Rural Fire District located at 810 Grand Drive, in Bigfork (call Bigfork Fire prior to a visit since they may be out on a call, 837-4590).

It is also the burners responsibility to call the Flathead County Air Quality hotline (751-8144) before they burn. Burners are responsible for any and all suppression costs, if their fire escapes their control. This year, burn permits are valid for 10 days per issuance and are not valid within the city limits of Whitefish, Kalispell and Columbia Falls.
