Places: Silver Moon Kayak Company

By Beacon Staff

With Paddlefest coming the weekend of May 17 and the Whitewater Festival soon after, kayak season is officially here. What some call “Northwest Montana’s biggest little boat shop,” Silver Moon Kayak Company is a great place to get those last minute accessories, boat rentals and upgrades.

Entering the unassuming building off North Somers Road, co-owners Bob Danford and Susan Conrad have collected an impressive assortment of boats and gear for sale. The store offers everything from touring kayaks, whitewater kayaks and inflatables to canoes and every accessory imaginable – and you can always try before you buy.

Besides the notable amount of gear for sale, Silver Moon also offers a variety of classes, including Recreational Kayaking 101, wet and dry; classes for beginners; upper-level sea kayaking and Level III Skills Upgrade workshops.

For people visiting the valley or for those who have lived here their whole lives, Silver Moon offers extraordinary ways for anyone to experience the area from the water. Relax and mellow out on a “Two-Hour Tour” or for more of an adventure tour Cedar Island and explore the Indian pictographs while improving your kayaking skills. For full rejuvenation, look into the yoga and kayaking workshop.
