HELENA – Montana Democrats will send 17 delegates who support presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama and eight backers of Hillary Clinton to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in late August.
Meeting in convention Sunday, Democrats elected eight delegates pledged to Obama and eight to Clinton.
Those are in addition to the eight superdelegates — top statewide Democratic elected officials and party officers — who have already announced their support of Obama.
The final delegate, Anna Whiting Sorrell of Lake County, was elected as an add-on unpledged delegate but said she would support Obama in Denver. That brings the total Obama delegates to 17.
The election of the 16 pledged delegates was based on results of Tuesday’s presidential primary in Montana.
