Schweitzer Still Tops Brown in Money

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – New campaign finance reports show Gov. Brian Schweitzer is in front of challenger Roy Brown in the money race.

Schweitzer, the incumbent Democrat, has more than $1.1 million in his campaign account. Brown has about $340,000.

Schweitzer reports raising $140,000 in the past month. That compares with Brown’s $98,000.

Brown does continue to increase his stockpile of money since getting into the race late last year. His campaign says it’s pleased with the numbers and believes Republicans around the state are making the governor’s race a focal point for the GOP.

Brown has been making tax reductions and government spending a central campaign theme, criticizing Schweitzer for growth in government.

Schweitzer has been touting job and wage growth, his tax rebates and an increase in alternative energy production.
