Tuesday evenings are fast becoming the night to be in Whitefish. The Downtown Farmers Market hops with shoppers and those just out to chitchat with neighbors. But now, piggybacking on the market’s popularity, Whitefish Theatre Company plans to take advantage of that buzz, adding to the evening’s hoopla with its Tuesday Market Concert Series.
The growing season is just starting in Northwest Montana, but despite June snows, farmers still piled up lettuces, rhubarb, beets, Swiss chard, kale, chives, and fresh herbs on their tables this past Tuesday. Rebecca Avrett and Todd Ulizio from Ten Lakes Farm in Eureka even brought in monster heads of romaine.
The Downtown Farmers Market has become more of a fair, with home-grown produce and music. In addition to veggies, the market also lines up vendors selling hand-made crafts and food hot of the grill—crepes, noodles, and yam fries.
This next week, market goers can extend their evening with the Tuesday Market Concert Series sponsored by the Whitefish Theatre Company. The concerts, held in the O’Shaughnessy Cultural Arts Center, run the gamut of jazz to folk with a daub of bluegrass and western thrown in.
The concert schedule includes the Jeni Fleming Acoustic Trio on July 1, Wylie & the Wild West on July 8, The Seldom Scene on July 15, and The Wailin’ Jennys on July 22.
At the Downtown Whitefish Farmers Market, stalls open from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Concerts follow in the O’Shaughnessy Center at 8 p.m. Tickets for the first three concerts are $25 for adults and $12 for students and children. The Wailin’ Jennys cost $28 for adults.
Whitefish Theatre Company sells their concert tickets online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org. Tickets are also available at the O’Shaughnessy box office (862-5371), which is open Mondays-Fridays noon to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on concert nights.
