Effort Begins to Rescind Lake County’s Density Map

By Beacon Staff

POLSON – A group of citizens opposed to Lake County’s density map is trying to gather enough signatures for a November ballot measure to rescind it.

The density map was approved by county commissioners in August 2005. Its purpose is to help concentrate development where services are already available. Another stated goal of the density map is to prevent urban sprawl.

Some landowners feel the density map is an infringement on property rights.

Backers of the ballot measure have formed a group called the “Hey Commissioners, This Land Is Our Land” committee.

They need the signatures of 2,538 registered Lake County voters by Aug. 13 to place the measure on the November ballot.
