Starbucks Won’t Close Any Montana Stores

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Starbucks Corp. says it will not be closing any stores in Montana.

The Seattle-based coffee company identified 600 stores nationwide that it plans to close in a bid to boost its business and weed out unprofitable locations.

But Montana is among a few states that are keeping all of their Starbucks coffee shops.

Neighboring Idaho is losing two stores. And four stores are being closed in North Dakota. Wyoming, like Montana, is not losing any.

The cutbacks represent a turnabout from Starbucks’ aggressive expansion plans. The company has seen traffic and its profits decline recently as the faltering economy has led some consumers to question their spending on pricey coffee.
