FWP Authorizes Killing of Wolf Pack

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks has authorized destruction of the Skalkaho wolf pack after repeated wolf attacks on cattle southwest of Philipsburg.

The agency says the pack was responsible for two confirmed livestock losses and another probable in the past few weeks. FWP authorized two lethal removals of wolves in response.

Two more incidents followed involving an injured calf and a dead cow and the agency says the wolves resisted landowner efforts to haze them out of the area.

Agents of USDA Wildlife Services killed two wolves on Oct. 9 and FWP says control actions continue to remove the rest of the pack.
