Faces: Aaron Young

Aaron Young started playing golf with Tiger Woods. Granted it was on a video game, but according to Young it was the game that sparked his interest in the sport.

Soon Young wrapped his hands around a golf club and hit piles of balls in a backyard field near the Stillwater River.

“I had hit a couple of balls before, but never really played,” said Young of his signing up for golf as a freshman at Flathead High School. With a little help from coaches and a lot of practice, his love for the game flourished.

“I got a job at Village Greens so I could play whenever I wanted,” said Young.

After a breakout game his sophomore year, Young was hooked. “I shot a 77,” Young said. “It couldn’t have been any better for me at that time.”

Now a senior at Glacier High School, Young is teeing off for a second time at state this week.

“It’s a goal to try and get a top-five finish at state,” said Young. “And a state championship for the team.”

“You have to get in the right mental mindset for 36 holes under a lot of pressure,” Young added.

He hopes to earn a golf scholarship and eventually have a career in something golf related like course management.
