Closed Bonner Sawmill to Begin Auctioning Assets

By Beacon Staff

BONNER – The shuttered Bonner sawmill will begin auctioning its assets Tuesday and Wednesday as Stimson Lumber Co. continues to look for someone to buy the 155-acre property.

The Portland, Ore.-based company recently closed the 125-year-old business, citing a deteriorating housing market and falling timber prices. The mill has been listed for sale since August.

“It was a good mill. I’m sorry to see it go,” said Jeff Webber, Stimson’s corporate vice president of manufacturing.

“I hope people will buy some stuff and put it to good use,” he said.

By Monday afternoon, more than 150 people had registered to bid at the auction, which will include a variety of mill equipment.

The company is asking $16 million for the facility.
