Grant Will Help Laid Off Aluminum Plant Workers

By Beacon Staff

COLUMBIA FALLS – The U.S. Department of Labor has announced a $462,000 grant to assist workers affected by layoffs at Columbia Falls Aluminum Co.

The aluminum plant laid off about 125 workers in July.

Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Deputy Assistant Labor Secretary Brent Orrell said the grant will provide training and employment services to help the laid-off workers make the transition to new jobs.

The grant will be administered by the Montana Department of Labor and Industry.

Services available under the grant will include individual career counseling, occupational skills training and training for in-demand occupations such as law enforcement and nursing, as well as in trades with apprenticeship programs, such as electrical and plumbing careers.
