Places: Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch

By Beacon Staff

With only a couple days before Halloween, visit the Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch for those last minute pumpkin purchases.

“Sometimes we have the only pumpkins left in the valley,” said Deborah Devries, owner and operator of the patch.

For the past seven years, the Devries have maintained a field where families can gather to pick out that perfect pumpkin for carving.

Before choosing which pumpkin to bring home, take time to visit the petting zoo that includes goats, alpacas and sheep, or wander through the bunny village. Parents and kids are welcome to take turns pedaling through the hay-lined “trike maze,” play in the sand box, wander through the corn patch or relax on the porch at the barn. Treats such as popcorn, caramel apples and cookies are also available for purchase.

Take a ride on the “pumpkin train,” a line of wagons being pulled by a green tractor, one of the favorites of visiting families.

Sweet Pickin’s is open through Oct. 31.

How to get there: From downtown Kalispell, travel east on U.S. Highway 2. Continue straight onto State Highway 35. Turn north on Columbia Falls Stage. Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch is on the west side of the road.
