Second Cabinet Grizzly Killed

By Beacon Staff

Two grizzly bears that were moved to the Cabinet Mountains this year to help augment the bear population are dead.

A Noxon man was cited for shooting one of them behind his house.

The other young female grizzly was struck and killed last week by a train along the Clark Fork River.

On Monday Randall Sharp of Noxon pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge involving the shooting of a grizzly bear last month.

Sharp self-reported the shooting to Sanders County sheriff’s dispatch on Oct. 20. Sharp said he reported the shooting after he saw the bear had a radio collar and appeared to be a grizzly.

He was cited by Montana game warden Jon Obst on Oct. 28 for hunting during a closed season, and shooting a grizzly when no hunting season is in place.
