Wednesday: Obama Wins, Local Results, Total Label Grows

By Beacon Staff

Good morning. Happy post-election day, everyone! And happy birthday to musician Art Garfunkel.

On the Beacon this morning, political results rule the day. Democrats made enormous gains on the national stage last night, winning the presidency and a number of Congressional seats. But in Flathead County, the night belonged mostly to Republicans, who won several decisive victories in several local races. For a list of local results go here. And to see images from Election Day see Lido Vizzutti’s photo slideshow here.

In other news on the Beacon and around the state, Whitefish’s Total Label has grown from a small family-run business with a handful of employees to a vast international labeling enterprise. Flathead County has a history steeped in the wood products industry, but as that industry has declined over the years, the county has diversified its economic base accordingly, experiencing substantial growth in sectors such as technology and alternative energy development. And a 66-year-old Ohio man died while hunting north of Whitefish on Tuesday.

And finally, Betty Owen is 92 and after a stroke four years ago, needs a feeding tube and can’t walk. But she was determined not to miss Tuesday’s election. She arrived at her polling place on a gurney in an ambulance. Now, that’s determination.

Have a great Wednesday, everyone.
