Five Players From Glacier and Flathead Named All-State

By Beacon Staff

Congratulations to soccer stars Maddey Frey, Heidi Windauer, Cameron Clevidence, Jerrad Merrill and Jared Rice, who were recently named all-state. Glacier High’s Frey, who is widely regarded as the best forward in the state, was also named Western Class AA’s girls soccer player of the year. The junior earned her second-straight all-state selection.

Frey led the state with 17 goals, while Windauer, a senior for Flathead, also finished among the state leaders with seven, to go along with three assists. On the boys’ side, Flathead’s Clevidence, a senior, finished second in the state with 10 goals and also had three assists. Merrill, also a senior at Flathead, had a strong season playing alongside Clevidence en route to his all-state selection. Rice, a senior at Glacier, was among the state’s scoring leaders with five goals and two assists.

Frey is the only junior of the bunch. I have gotten the chance to meet her and I can say she is witty and wise beyond her years. Earlier this fall when I interviewed her for a story, which you can find here, she answered questions with thoughtful descriptions about the beauty of soccer’s fluidity and motion, not exactly boilerplate high school answers. Soccer is clearly meaningful to her. I’ll enjoy watching her senior year.
