Flathead High School’s Laurie Swindall has been playing volleyball now for nine years, and the senior credits her older sister for inspiring her to excel at the sport. She also takes the lessons learned on the court and applies them to her studies and everyday life.

“When practice starts we all get in a group and go over goals or discussions on team aspects; these times provide me with reflections on my own life,” Swindall said.

In her spare time, Swindall sews, plays guitar, rides horses, skis and takes pictures. When not riding a horse you may find her tearing it up on a dirt bike or hunting antelope.

Off the court, she is also a member of a few clubs: Young Life, art, pottery, sewing and yoga.

Her long-term goal is to do something in the fashion design field and said she may have to go to a larger city to pursue that career.

“Do everything with a purpose and all your heart – it gives a better turnout in the end and a more fun ride on the way,” Swindall said.
