Deadline Nears for County Poster Contest

By Beacon Staff

If you’re artistic and interested in making a little extra cash and getting your work out there, check out this press release from Flathead County:

Flathead County Fairgrounds needs a mascot and a poster design to promote all the fun planned for the 2009 Northwest Montana Fair. The art will be used on the cover of the magazine-style premium book, on posters, brochures, billboards and T-shirts.

Each year, eye-catching art promotes some of the many facets of the fair: the rodeo, parade, livestock and floriculture competitions, carnival and fireworks, pig wrestling — and new this year, mutton busting (a “wild sheep” riding event for children.) The theme of the 2009 fair is “Busting Loose,” and fair organizers envision artwork that features sheep, singular or plural.

The winning artist will receive two tickets to a fair event of his or her choice — concert, rodeo or demolition derby — plus $250 in cash, and a basket of NWMT Fair promotional logo items, including a jacket, cap, and T-shirt. Fair organizers welcome all types of art from all ages and ability. Typically, graphic art has been selected for fair publications, but any art medium that will display well in print will be considered.

After the winner is declared, all artwork not reclaimed by artists will be honored in special displays leading up to and during the fair. The art should be a 14×21-inch poster. If the art is a graphic design, it should include the words: “2009 Northwest Montana Fair.” All posters should have space in which concert and special events may appear in photo and print.

The deadline for art entries is 5 p.m. December 1, 2008, at the fairgrounds office.

Previous posters may be viewed at the fairgrounds office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Questions may be addressed to Anne Clark at the fairgrounds office via e-mail, [email protected].
