Forest Service Suspends Pipeline Analysis

By Beacon Staff

The Forest Service is suspending work on an environmental impact statement for a natural gas pipeline that NorthWestern Energy proposed building in the Flathead National Forest.

NorthWestern says the pipeline won’t be needed until the heating season of 2012 or 2013. The Forest Service says work on the environmental analysis will resume when the company is prepared to move forward with the project.

NorthWestern proposed building and operating about 12 miles of gas pipeline in the Hungry Horse Ranger District.

The pipeline would carry gas for consumption in the Flathead Valley.
