Toddler Girl Shot in Face With Pistol Near Somers

By Beacon Staff

A 1-year-old girl was shot in the face with a pistol near Somers on Tuesday, but authorities have not released details about how the incident occurred.

Flathead County Sheriff Mike Meehan said the girl was in a pickup truck at a construction site west of the city when she was shot once with a .22-caliber pistol just after 4 p.m. She was listed in stable condition Tuesday evening at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. A 2-year-old girl who also was in the pickup was not injured.

Meehan said investigators would obtain a search warrant for the truck and recreate witness statements to determine how the shooting may have occurred. He said the pistol was in the vehicle.

The girl’s parents drove her from the Boon Road construction site, where they are building a house, to meet an ambulance on U.S. 93.
