Griz Fans Descend on Chattanooga

By Beacon Staff

The top story today in Montana’s main newspapers is this: “Griz Fans Travel to Chattanooga for National Championship.” The stories are different, from a trio of die-hard moms to general accounts of the masses that are expected to descend on the Tennessee city for tonight’s Football Championship Subdivision title game between the University of Montana and the University of Richmond.

But all of the articles stay true to one basic theme: Griz fans, despite poor weather and bad economic times, find a way to see their beloved team, even if the game is held on the other side of the country. Of course, there is the added benefit of killing two birds with one stone – many of the football fans can travel the short distance to Rome, Ga., to see Carroll College play in the NAIA national championship tomorrow. Up to 3,000 fans are making the trip.

For those intrepid traveling fans, be sure to take pictures and cherish the moment. For the rest of us, a warm house and a few good friends will provide the setting. Either way, the members of Griz nation will be tuned in when the game begins at 6 p.m. Mountain Standard Time on ESPN2. Enjoy.
