Hoping to Build Tradition With ‘Best of Preps’

By Beacon Staff

On the newsstands and on our Web site right now is the Beacon’s second “Best of Preps” issue. We experimented with the idea of a special edition dedicated to local high sports last winter and it was a hit. So we decided to go for round two. The plan is to keep them coming in the future.

They can be tricky, mostly because of the logistical complications associated with rounding up a dozen or so high school kids and getting them to sit through a long photo shoot accompanied by an interview. Also, the entire sports staff consists of me, along with Lido Vizzutti, our talented photographer. But these editions are certainly rewarding – for us, but more so, I hope, for the athletes, parents and fans. We like giving credit where credit’s due.

With any luck, “Best of Preps” will become a tradition that athletes in the valley look forward to, as do coaches and parents. We plan to toy around with new ideas and make every edition as fresh and exciting as possible. It’s already something I mark on my calendar and I think it will only get better.
