HAVRE – Incoming House Speaker Bob Bergren and his family are continuing their holiday tradition of hosting a Christmas dinner in Havre on Thursday.
For the past six years, Bergren, his wife Julie, their two children, his brother Scott, his dad Jerry and a group of volunteers have cooked up a free turkey dinner at the Havre Eagles Club. They also deliver another 250 meals to people who aren’t able to get out.
The family takes some donations and pays for the rest. The Christmas dinner continues a tradition started by former Rep. Bob Sivertsen.
Bergren says Sivertsen held the dinner for quite a few years and the Bergrens took it over when Sivertsen retired.
Bergren’s dad owns a restaurant and his brother is the head chef, lending expertise to the large undertaking.
