Places: Whitefish Branch of the Flathead County Library

By Beacon Staff

To escape the cold weather, pull up a comfy chair at the Flathead County Library.

The Whitefish branch is hosting a new English as a second language service and plans to have classes in the morning and evening on Mondays. With the possibility of expanding, contact the library for specific times.

As an addition to the already impressive online opportunities, patrons can now download audio books in MP3 format. Thousands of books, ranging from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes to biographies and fairy tales, can now be downloaded to personal computers, compact disc and MP3 players.

Use the free wireless Internet or one of the many provided computers to trace your genealogy and family history with HeritageQuest, an online database of historical records and newspaper index. Or browse the growing collection of DVDs.

The Whitefish branch, along with the other four branches of the Flathead County Library, is an ideal place to explore the unknown, challenge yourself and let your imagination take flight by simply opening a book.

And it’s free. All it takes is a library card.

How to get there: The Whitefish branch of the Flathead County Library is located on Spokane Avenue across from the train depot downtown Whitefish. For other locations or information visit www.flatheadcountylibrary.org.
