SUPERIOR – The U.S. Marshals Service is searching for two men who escaped from the Mineral County detention center in Superior over the weekend.

One of the men, 40-year-old Daniel Schwindt, was awaiting sentencing for shooting at Flathead County deputies in October 2007. Schwindt, a fugitive from Oregon at the time of his arrest in Flathead County, pleaded guilty in October 2008 to being a felon in possession of a firearm. His sentencing is scheduled for Friday.

The Marshals Service says 26-year-old William Newhoff also escaped from the jail sometime Saturday night in a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Newhoff has been in custody on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Schwindt is described as a white man, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing about 175 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair. Newhoff is 5-foot-10, weighs about 205 pounds and has hazel eyes and red hair.
