Newspapers On the Internet? Yeah Right

How quickly I have forgotten how far we have advanced since 1981. Granted, it’s not something I think about feverishly. But in today’s world where it seems like everyone around me is trying to stay ahead of the next hot electronic gizmo, it’s funny to think there was a time when the television news would spend over two minutes reporting on how we might one day get our news online.

Three things I would like to point out: 1. Remember when news organizations had dedicated Science and Technology reporters? 2. David Cole of the San Francisco Examiner: “This is an experiment. We’re trying to figure out what it’s going to mean to us as editors and reporters and what it means to the home user and we’re not in it to make money. We’re probably not going to lose a lot but we’re not going to make much either.” 3. The final voice over: “So for the moment at least, this fellow isn’t worried about being out of a job…”
