Flathead vs. Glacier Rivalry Renewed

By Beacon Staff

Tonight – Tuesday, Feb. 3 – is this year’s first edition of Glacier vs. Flathead. The cross-town rivalry, now in its second year, doesn’t carry heavy playoff implications, as three of the four teams – counting both boys and girls – are winless in conference play. But grudge matches are grudge matches, and this game has been circled on each team’s calendar since day one of the 2008-2009 season.

Two of the Class AA’s top guards will on be display tonight. Glacier’s Ben Cutler is leading the state in scoring at 23.8 points per game. On the girls side, Flathead’s Kelsey Hildal is averaging 17.5 points per game, fourth in the state. Throw in Glacier’s Shay Smithwick-Hann and Flathead’s Karl Ingram, along with Glacier’s Emilee Hashley for the girls, and tonight’s game features five of Western AA’s top players.

Both games are held at Glacier High School.

Girls:
Flathead (0-12 overall, 0-4 conference) @ Glacier (4-8 overall, 0-4 conference) at 6 p.m.

Boys:
Flathead (2-10 overall, 1-3 conference) @ Glacier (8-4 overall, 3-1 conference) at 8 p.m.
